St Lucia has become on of the more popular destinations for romantic and honeymoon couples - in large part due to the Sandals resorts located on the island.

Welcome to St Lucia

updated - January 28, 2012

St Lucia features a diverse landscape that ranges from barren volcanic lands on the eastern shore to lush green valley and mountainsides. A volcanic island - long since dormant - has left behind a tropical paradise that features a number of beautiful bays and beaches.

Local agricultural emphasis is on banana production.

While the island is a mere 27 miles long, the journey from Hewanorra airport in Vieux Fort at the southern tip to the resort and tourist centers of Soufriere and Rodney Bay involve a nerve shaking trip of hair pin turns and can take well over an hour - helicopter rides from Castries to the airport is an alternative.

St Lucia

Most of the islands tourist areas are on the island's west coast - Rodney Bay is peaceful and serene with gentle elevation changes while the Soufrieres area to the south is marked by imposing geologic and volcanic features with stunning vistas.

Restaurants

Chateau Mygo
Overlook Marigot Bay from the outdoor dining deck and enjoy West-Indian and Creole original dishes. Atmosphere is open-air, and the lack of air-conditioning may pose some discomfort so plan your trip accordingly -open at 8 am until midnight. Located on Main Road in Rodney Bay, St Lucia.

Places to Stay

Ladera Resort
Near Soufriere and set on a mountainside, the location offers a stunning view of the Caribbean and the Pitons (twin volcanic peaks). The view is made even more impressive with the unusual cottages that are sculpted into the landscape and feature private plunge pools. Beach access is provided by a shuttle. The restaurant is worth the trip alone. Soufrieres, St Lucia.

Attractions

La Soufriere Volcano
This "Drive Through" volcano and the walking trail offer a glimpse at hot pools and volcanic features. Not active in over 40,000 years, the geo-thermal system that remains offers the illusion of volcanic activity. Near Soufriere
